What are the steps for a successful FWS job interview?
1. Be on time for your interview appointment and if you have a resume,
bring it with you on the day of your interview.
2. Be appropriately dressed and well-groomed.
3. Have some familiarity with the position for which you are applying.
4. Be prepared to discuss why you believe you qualify for the position.
5. Know your schedule of availability so that you will be ready to discuss
the hours you will be available to work.
What is the FWS Student/Employer Acknowledgment Form?
The FWS Student/Employer Acknowledgment, one of the documents in the 'FWS Hiring Packet', is a formal agreement between you and your employer that outlines the terms and conditions under which you may work. Read this document carefully so that you have a clear understanding of your rights and responsibilities, as well as those of your employer.
The 'Acknowledgment' form contains important information including your name, last four digits of your social security number, EMPL ID, job location, supervisor, hourly pay rate and total FWS award amount. Check this information carefully to make certain it is all correct before signing the 'Acknowledgment' form.
Upon agreeing to hire you, your supervisor will also sign the 'Acknowledgment' form. The completed 'FWS Hiring Packet' should be returned promptly to the Office of Financial Aid Room 241N. When your 'Hiring Packet' is received you will be placed on the FWS payroll. Timesheets cannot be processed for payment until the 'Hiring Packet' has been returned.
What is the FERPA Agreement?
As a student employee at Hunter College-CUNY, you may be granted access to confidential and private records of students, faculty, staff, and applicants for admission or employment. All of these records are protected from disclosure to third parties under CUNY, as well as Federal and State privacy laws. In particular student records are protected by the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) and must be treated as confidential.
If as part of your job responsibilities you are required to release information about faculty, staff, students, or applicants for admission or employment, you will be directed to so by your FWS supervisor in writing.
You should avoid acquiring student information that you do not need to do your job, nor should you exchange information about students that you may have learned while performing your job. Even a minor disclosure of information (such as telling another student of someone's class schedule) could be a violation and result in penalties including the loss of your job, and possibly the denial of future employment through the FWS program.
You will be required to sign a statement agreeing that you will abide by the FERPA provisions of confidentiality while you are employed as a FWS student.
